     ATOMIC SCALE CAPILLARIES

Our latest research at the University of Manchester involves design and fabrication of capillary devices with atomically thin 2D-materials assembled as 2D-heterostructures. The capillaries are layer-by-layer structures of 2D-materials such as graphene, with cavities running through middle of the stack.

To put it in simple way, we make atomic-scale channels with atomically smooth walls! This novel architecture of capillaries provides atomic scale tunability of dimensions and atomically smooth walls. Despite the Ångstrom (Å) scale, this is essentially a top-down lithographic technique which ensures its high reproducibility and flexibility.

Our Angstrofluidics Group is currently looking for excellent PhD candidates - if you are interested in pursuing a PhD on state-of-the-art 2D materials for angstrom capillaries, ion sieving, mass transport or quantum devices from 2D materials, please get in touch by email with a CV.

Entry requirements - First class bachelors and masters. IELTS must for candidates whose first language is not english. Research experience is desirable. Intelligent, and motivated students who want to do cutting-edge science are welcome. Apply soon for full consideration, before October 2019

General Guidelines for applicants of PhD, Postdoc, masters, and visitor positions:

  >  Please specify why you would like to particularly apply for this position, and how you would be suitable.
  >  Please send only one PDF file primarily CV and cover letter, and keep the file size small to avoid bouncing from the
      server.
We disregard the office doc and excel files due to virus risks.
  >  We are a multinational group and official language is English. Further language requirement to the entry here
  >  A thorough selection process via shortlisting of candidates and interview will be exercised to selection of candidates, even if you have funding or interested in applying for fellowships.

Listed below are few of the ways we can support you working in our group.

PhD and Masters:

The NoWNano CDT - There is an opportunity to work with us when applying for the NOWNano scheme.

Here is an opportunity for US citizens to pursue a funded PhD position with us.  Marshall Scholarship

Enthusiastic Masters/PhD students can look up fellowship opportunities to work with us, e.g.,
Common wealth PhD scholarships for students from developing and developed countries

           Schlumberger fellowship for women
           Chinese Government Scholarships
           Chevening India Scholarship

Short visits:
We #angstromscalefluidics group could host you for PhD placements (for Chinese students) in UK. Please contact if interested.
